My Investing Story

My investing journey started at 5 years old in the drive-through of a McDonald's in Santa Fe, New Mexico. My dad pointed to the building and said, "We own part of this company." Not understanding stock ownership, I asked, "Shouldn't we get free chicken nuggets?" This idea of owning a piece of my favorite companies stuck with me and sparked my interest in the stock market and investing. By 18, I began investing my own money and learned that investing can be confusing and complex with so many options and strategies available. This led me to develop my own personal investment philosophy.

Investment Philosophy

I draw inspiration from investor Peter Lynch, who believes in "investing in what you know and understand." His book "Beating the Street" shares a story about 7th graders who created a stock portfolio for a class project. In two years, their portfolio grew by over 70%, beating the S&P 500, which increased by 26%. Lynch met with the students and found their success came from choosing familiar companies with simple products. I often share this story with my clients because its lessons are still relevant. Investing can be complicated or simple, but simplicity often brings the best long-term results.

Diversifying your investments is another key to success.  You never want to put all your eggs in one basket, and spreading out risk usually results in better outcomes over the long-run.
